Haute coiffure - headlining looks from Day 1 of Paris Haute Couture week

Here are your runway hair orders from Paris Haute Couture’s inaugural fashion shows: the wet look, scraped-back styles, 1980s colour and romantic retro waves.

Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei went to town with high-maintenance hair to match her dramatic fall collection, awash with glitzy diva-like gowns and stunning Chopard jewels.

Icy and ash blonde 1980s colour meets 50s power waves owned the runway on Sunday. The Chinese designer’s models, including Swedish beauty Sally Jonsson, sported highly-styled medium length curls, fit for the silver screen.

On the other end of the styling spectrum, Azzaro and Galia Lahav opted for far more relaxed, low-maintenance hair. Both fashion houses chose middle-parted, flowing maiden-like tresses, much easier and less time-consuming style to replicate. The word on the Azzaro runway? Forget your next color appointment, root exposure is back.

Heatwave hair worn off the face is another trend that is gathering steam on the Fall AW 17/18 runway. Brushing back lengths is the ultimate hair no-brainer. The scraped-back failsafe look that lets the clothes do the talking was a favorite with Xuan and Proenza Schouler.

Models at the Xuan show on Sunday wore their hair severely swept back into uniform ponytails. The Dutch-Vietnamese designer also added bad hair day-saving statement wide-brimmed hats into the mix.

And many “Indie brands” meet it, positioning themselves with green + clean + ethics + efficient + lifestyle + happy claims, mainly in the USA. This trend is already most visible in skincare, but it is still almost nowhere to be seen in France in makeup. What is this (...)
