Japanese artist Houxo Que creates a fluorescent flacon for YSL Paris Premières Roses

Rather than launching a new perfume this season, YSL Beauty decided to bring fine art to the perfume world in a new flacon. The French brand enlisted the help of Japanese artist Houxo Que, who created a new take on the Paris Premières Roses flacon.

Accustomed to working with fluorescent paints and black lights, Houxo Que chose to paint the flacon in the dark, splattering the floor and the walls with multi-coloured glowing pigments to arrive at a "flamboyant flower effect." The result is colourful and very modern, as the pink base is accented by touches of colour symbolizing petals.

"I wanted to do away with the innocence of roses to create a new flower that is neither classic nor romantic. To make the rose more radical," the artist explains.

The Paris Premières Roses fragrance remains unchanged, combining notes of wild rose, violet leaf and neroli with an accord of rose damascena, peony and lily of the valley. Touches of white musk and sandalwood round out the perfume.

Paris Premières Roses by Houxo Que will go on sale from March 2 at select stores and online from YSL Beauty.
