Grupo Boticário starts distribution operations in Bahia

Grupo Boticário’s new distribution centre in São Gonçalo dos Campos, Bahia, began operating in the testing phase on the 10th of April 2014. The company invested R$155 million (US$ 70 million or EUR 51 million) in the distribution centre and created 137 direct jobs to address the demand in cosmetics and perfumes in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil. The modern and automated distribution centre features state-of-the-art technology, including a stacker crane and a picking by light line that can ship 1,800 boxes of products and sort 42,000 pieces per hour.

The distribution centre was built on a plot of 300 square meters and currently offers 25,000 square meters of building with a storage area that can contain 16,000 pallet positions. This is the second distribution centre for Grupo Boticário which, since 2010, operates a logistics unit with similar characteristics and dimensions in Registro, state of Sao Paulo.

A distribution centre of this magnitude, with the technology that is included, puts Bahia and São Gonçalo dos Campos at the world’s top ranking in the sorting and distribution of cosmetics and perfumery," said Artur Grynbaum, president of Grupo Boticário.

The distribution centre is the first of two major Grupo Boticário investments in the state of Bahia. In the second half of the year, the company will open a new factory in Camaçari, with a production capacity of 150 million items per year on twelve lines dedicated to perfumes and nine to personal care products (creams, lotions, shampoos). Investments in the two operating units amounted to a total of R$ 535 million.
