Unilever Brasil to invest R$ 2 billion in marketing

With R$ 15.3 billion recorded in sales and a 12.5% increase in 2013, Unilever Brasil has announced investment of R$ 3 billion for 2014, of which two-thirds will be allocated to marketing and new product development and one-third to the installation of the company’s 10th factory complex in Brazil.

The new plant in Aguai, São Paulo state, is scheduled to begin operating in 2015 and is expected to create around 600 new direct and indirect jobs by 2020.

Unilever has been operating in Brazil since 1929 and it is currently the country’s largest company of consumer goods. The Brazilian operation is Unilever’s second largest in the world, only behind the U.S. "The annual growth in Brazil is almost three times larger than the company’s expansion globally," says Fernando Fernandez, president, Unilever Brasil. In 2013, the company also took over as the largest advertiser in the country.

The marketing investment will allow the company to renew 70% of its portfolio and enter the premium segment with new products for the Dove, Dove Men+Care and Axe brands. Unilever has also reaffirmed its global goal to double in size by 2020 and halve the environmental footprint of its products.

In March this year, Unilever launched its second largest distribution center in Brazil, located in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais state. With 90,000 sqm of built area, investments of R$ 200 million and the capacity to handle 3,600 tons per day, the new warehouse caters for food, personal care and home care products. The first distribution center with LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in Brazil allows for greater use of natural light and water reuse as well as reducing power consumption.
