Merck showcases new solutions for the Brazilian cosmetics industry

The global leader in pearlescent pigments has launched an ingredient of inorganic composition that produces an intense, red sparkle effect and can be used in make-up and personal care products

Merck, one of the leading global companies for chemicals and pharmaceuticals, has just recently debuted in Brazil two new products developed by its Performance Materials division for the cosmetics industry.

Global leader in the production of pearlescent pigments, this German company with over 350 years of history just recently launched Ronastar® Red Lights, a pigment of inorganic origin, which is part of its Smart Effects portfolio and can be used in the manufacture of several different kinds of cosmetics.

Its formula contains a red special effect that produces an intense sparkle, similar to that of crystals. According to Merck, this ingredient can be used in the formulation of make-up and personal care items, and can also be mixed with other pigments to achieve transparent, pastel or iridescent tones.

Another recent launch by Merck focuses on hair care, more specifically the scalp. The Root Miracle kit consists of products for urban center dwellers, who tend to suffer from more sensitive, fragile scalps - a result of being frequently exposed to external aggressions such as pollution and the sun.

Five products round off the new line: the Scalp Elixir provides a soothing and refreshing sensation; the Mud Bath is a purifying clay mask; F’hair Mane is a revitalizing scalp scrub; the Freed Form lotion tackles scalp oiliness and, lastly, the RepHairing Serum repairs damaged hair.

Brazil is just one of the 66 countries where Merck is currently present. The Brazilian branch was established over 95 years ago, and, in addition to the Performance Materials division, it also operates in the Healthcare and Life Science segments. In 2017, the Brazilian unit achieved R$ 1.2 billion in total net sales. Merck’s worldwide revenue last year totaled EUR 14.8 billion.
