Chemical distribution company Brenntag grows in Brazil by acquiring Quimisa

Multinational company Brenntag - a world leader in chemical products and ingredients distribution, which registered over EUR 60 million in sales in 2018 - has announced its purchase of the Brazilian company Quimisa. Quimisa is based in Santa Catarina and is known for supplying chemical solutions. The deal also includes the acquisition of Quimilog, a logistics subsidiary.

Quimisa has been working with chemical solutions since 1959

Founded in 1959, Quimisa has been run by the same family for three generations. With plants in the states of Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo - besides Santa Catarina - the company is one of the main distributors of industrial chemicals in Latin America. In its portfolio, the company offers products such as caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), hydrogen peroxide and a variety of specialties, including dyes and polymers.

With this deal, the German company - which is present in over 70 countries - increases its participation in the Brazilian market. Brenntag Química Brasil was created in 2002, after Group HCI merged with B.Herzog and bought Fenil Química. Currently, the company works with four distribution centers in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil, supplying different sectors including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, fragrances and scents, lubricants, oil, gas and agribusiness.

According to Brenntag’s directors, the acquisition of Quimisa is an attractive investment. The company’s infrastructure will allow Brenntag to increase its presence in Brazil and grow the supply of services in the country, benefiting clients and partners. For Quimisa and Quimilog, on the other hand, joining the chemicals distributor will combine the strengths of both companies, resulting in new market opportunities.
