Leads Care bets on the “shampoo effect”

The Brazilian economy is passing through difficult times, even if the beauty market has always been a privileged sector. However, according to recent figures from the Brazilian Association of Toiletries, Perfumes & Cosmetics (ABIHPEC), the beauty sector recorded its first decline in 23 years in 2015, with a 6% decrease from the previous year.

Nevertheless, with a 400% growth in 2015, Leads Care Cosméticos does not seem impacted by the recession. And growth forecast for the company in 2016 is about 100%. Entrepreneur Carol Lima contributed directly to the success.

Actually, Carol Lima transformed the famous lipstick effect - a phenomenon that leads people to spend more on personal care during a period of economic contraction - into a shampoo effect. With the crisis, women decrease the frequency of their visits to salons to take care of their hair at home, thus boosting the consumption of hair care products. "We work with the do it yourself concept. So consumers can carry on taking care of their hair, even when the economy does not help," says the businesswoman.

When Carol Lima, began working with cosmetics sales through the Internet, she did not think she would become a reference on the matter. She won the confidence of consumers and became a reference in consulting and sales of this type of product, so that invested in its own e-commerce business, Shop Carol, and then created a blog to share beauty tips. Today, she is a digital influencer with almost a million followers on Facebook.

Such a success on the web allowed Carol to join Leads Care Cosméticos. Knowing the importance of digital influencers, Carol partnered with several beauty bloggers thus boosting the company’s sales.

Today, Leads Care Cosméticos has a nationwide coverage with over 300 dealers and numerous online stores.
