in-cosmetics Brasil grows and strengthens its position as an innovation platform for Latin America

On the 30th September and 1st October of 2015, the second edition of in-cosmetics Brasil will bring to São Paulo the latest in ingredients for personal care, perfumery and cosmetics to be showcased in an exhibition space 60% larger than in 2014. One of the show’s highlights is the Formulation Display, an area located within the Innovation Zone where raw materials are exhibited alongside finished products, helping visitors understand how ingredients come to life in a finished format. The educational program has also been expanded to include over 45 hours of technical conferences divided into three topics: Innovation Seminars and Workshops, targeting R&D managers, and Marketing Seminars, with information on the latest trends, figures, news and market reports.

In an exclusive interview with Brazil Beauty News, in-cosmetics Brasil show manager, Daniel Zanetti, talks about the importance of the Brazilian market for the ingredients industry worldwide and the opportunities available for companies interested in investing in the country.

Brazil Beauty News - in-cosmetics is the world’s leading event for personal care ingredients. How would you rate the event’s debut in Brazil in 2014?

Daniel Zanetti - The first edition of in-cosmetics Brasil exceeded our expectations, both in the number of exhibitors and visitors. We had 11% of visitors coming from overseas as a result of a strong communication strategy, valuable partnerships, and a promotion program carried out through road shows in Latin America. Visitors were extremely satisfied with the variety of exhibiting companies (192 in total), of which 60% are international - based in 20 different countries - and interested in taking advantage of the great potential that Brazil and Latin America can deliver.

Brazil Beauty News - What will be the focus of this year’s edition?

Daniel Zanetti - The focus remains on raw materials, R&D professionals and product formulators, who need to stay tuned to the world’s latest developments. Therefore, we have maintained a strong international presence and broadened our educational program with the launch of Marketing Trends sessions, Sensory Workshops and an extended program of Innovation Seminars. The Workshops will once again be coordinated by ITEHPEC (Institute of Technology and Studies for Cosmetics, Toiletries and Fragrances) and will keep the same format as last year. We have doubled the number of products to be exhibited at the Innovation Zone so that experts from Brazil and Latin America do not need to travel overseas to have access to the latest ingredients and technologies. The show will not cater for manufacturers or other stakeholders involved in the production chain - we remain and will remain faithful to our DNA, which is the focus on raw materials.

Brazil Beauty News - What is the estimated impact of the Innovation Zone and the Fragrance Trail on lead generation?

Daniel Zanetti - The Innovation Zone is one of the most visited areas in all in-cosmetics events around the world and it will double in size in 2015. In partnership with Mintel, we will present a selection of finished products carefully hand-picked based on criteria such as innovation and functionality. The Fragrance Trail will lead visitors willing to deepen their knowledge of fragrances and essences to the location of each fragrance company in the map. Similarly, we have created the Testing and Regulation Trail, which gathers companies providing quality assurance and regulatory services.

Brazil Beauty News - in-cosmetics Brasil has a clear international approach in terms of exhibitors, visitors and seminars. How is Brazil connected to the world’s main ingredient manufacturers?

Daniel Zanetti - Despite the slowdown in the Brazilian economy and the devaluation of the real against the American dollar, international companies see huge opportunities in Brazil and Latin America. Economic downturns are temporary and the industry will continue to grow. Brazil is the world’s third largest market, accounting for 9.4% of the global market. Latin America represents 17.5% of the world’s consumption, i.e., US$ 81.5 billion. Many major international brands already have subsidiaries in Brazil, but smaller companies leverage this opportunity to meet distributors, test the Latin American market and generate new businesses.

Brazil Beauty News - What are the main trends that have emerged for cosmetics and personal care ingredients?

Daniel Zanetti - The sensory aspect was quite remarkable at in-cosmetics in Barcelona and this trend was confirmed at other events we attended. Products with natural ingredients have also been arousing considerable interest in global markets. In Brazil, we have many raw materials with a natural appeal, but there are also other countries providing a wide variety of interesting ingredients that will be exhibiting at the trade show.

Brazil Beauty News - What are the market opportunities for companies willing to invest in Latin America?

Daniel Zanetti - in-cosmetics Brazil allows international companies to have access to the Latin American market and get together with professionals from different countries that can meet their main needs. Due to the event’s interactive nature, manufacturers can test their products in the market and receive real-time feedback. This enables them to make the right adjustments and enable a faster and more successful penetration into the target market.
