French-based company Puressentiel plans to enter Brazil in 2016

In its 10 years of operations, Puressentiel has transformed itself from a small family-run business into one of the leading companies on the European aromatherapy market. The French company operates in more than 50 countries and is preparing to open its first branch in Brazil in 2016.

Its purifying spray, with anti-bactericidal and antiviral properties, claims to eliminate mites and strong smells from frying and cigarette smoke. It is the best-selling aromatherapy product in France, with 2.5 million units sold in 2014.

The opening date of the Brazilian operation is subject to the company receiving authorization from Brazil’s sanitary regulatory body, ANVISA. To get round the high import taxes, Puressentiel is considering the possibility of producing part of its line, which consists of more than 140 products based on 111 essential oils, in Brazil.

The company’s international director, Rocco Pacchioni, said Puressentiel’s presence in Brazil would also facilitate the purchase of native raw materials that are currently used in the manufacture of products, as well as encourage research into new natural ingredients.

Puressentiel was founded in 2005 and has been growing at annual rates of 30%. The company’s revenues in 2014 came to €68 million, of which 25% were from international operations. The goal is for exports to account for 50% of revenues in 2017.

The company foresees the Brazilian operation having the potential to become its second-largest market in the world, a position that is currently held by Belgium, with revenues of €5 million. In total, 14 million items were sold worldwide last year. Even Italy, which is not at its best economic state, recorded an increase in sales of 69% in 2014.
